Newsworthy?

I searched the internet a bit today for some topical inspiration. I found this stuff.
Check out this headline and article intro:

Hitler Was a Tax Dodger, Researcher Finds
Adolf Hitler spent years evading taxes and owed German authorities 405,000 Reichsmarks -- equivalent to $8 million today -- by the time his tax debts were forgiven soon after he took power, a researcher said on Friday (Reuters)

Talk about tarnishing a man’s reputation. Tax Dodger? Nobody wants to be remembered as a tax dodger. Time well spent, researcher. It’s official: Hitler was not an upstanding member of society.

How bout this story from the AP about a “disturbing trend in underage drinking”

Doctors Say 'Alco-Pop' Drinks Target Youngsters
31 Percent Of Teen Girls Have Tried Sweet Drinks
Sweet alcoholic drinks aggressively marketed to young people are anything but "cool and fashionable" and are luring troubling numbers of teens -- especially girls -- to engage in underage drinking, the American Medical Association said Thursday.
A nationwide AMA poll of 741 youngsters aged 12 to 18 found that 31 percent of girls and 19 percent of boys had consumed drinks some call "alco-pop" or "malternatives" in the past six months.

First of all, since when did the AMA become the authority on what’s “cool and fashionable?” Have you seen their record collection? It totally blows. Secondly, are they making their argument because only 31 percent of girls and 19 percent of guys aged 12-18 have tried these drinks? If so, what type of statistical evidence would it have taken for them not to be able to deny how cool and fashionable these drinks are with a straight face? Over 5O percent? I don’t know, nearly a third of all teenage girls are doing something, to me that’s actually probably the height of coolness. If a majority of them were drinking this stuff it would be too mainstream; they’d be sheep in a herd. But as is, these girls are kind of trend setters, no? Finally, I don’t think the AMA is doing itself any favors by popularizing catchy phrases for these drinks like ‘alco-pop’ and especially ‘malternatives’. I hate these fruity drinks but with a genius moniker like malternatives, I just might have to purchase a six pack of Mike’s Hard tonight.

Saw a bit of Blue Lagoon this morning. Didn’t the director take some heat for showing a 15 year olds bare “buppies” as Brooke Shields referred to them? Sure it was done tastefully, but am I the only one who found it to be slightly innapropriate? And am I the only one who would be tickled pink if anybody out there found me the unedited dvd as a holiday gift?

Hope everybody’s week winds down as delightfully as the graceful ballerina inside my most favorite music box at the end of the sweet music’s melody. Who typed that shit?
