Winners and Losers
Exree Hipp started the NYUPBL season off with a convincing victory last night. The most memorable moment from last night's game occurred early on while I was guarding a bigger guy on the other team (sometimes I guard guys on my team just to keep the opponents guessing) As this guy tried to drive along the baseline I positioned myself such that he was forced out of bounds. Right before he stepped out he rifled the ball at my crotch in hopes of bouncing it out of bounds of off me, hence retaining possession for his team. Needless to say I was taken aback by the direct blow to my promise land. Then Johnny Sportsmanship, as I dubbed him, walks over to tower over me as I'm recoiled in pain and says, "That's what you get for pushing me." Apparently in Johnny's book, clean, physical baseline defense warrants attempting to take away a man's ability to reproduce. I wanted to start talking shit to him and throwing cheap shots throughout the course of the game but he was a lot bigger than me so I just let my play do the talking. In not so many words I told him "you may have pummeled my package with a Spalding but that's not gonna stop me from going 0-5 from 3 point range, 0-2 from the line, scoring on a couple of decent drives, dishing out a handful of assists and allowing you to score about 16 more points. I think he heard me loud and clear.
I believe it's been raining for 60 of the last 72 hours. Nothing like a cold driving rain to inspire an unemployed guy to jump up out of bed and get a jumpstart on the day. It's really uplifting. I'll try to contain all my enthusiasm because I realize it's rude to rub it in the faces of all of you out there suffering through the nice-weather doldrums. Hooray for the weekend
