Adam Cole-Kelly presents: Believe the Hyphen

I have a hyphenated last name that I've used as the basis for the name of my blog which in and of itself is a play on words. Clever's got a new home folks. Make yourselves comfortable.

In A Rut

I’ve eaten at the same place for lunch each of my first three days at my job. I wonder how long it will be until… this premise proves itself to be devoid of any humor potential whatsoever. Wow, that was quick. This is a window into my writing process. Normally I would’ve deleted that initial sentence about the lunch spot, but today I figured I’d let you in on some of my failures instead of just posting my startling blog successes. I hope you appreciate how brave of me this is. Talk about courage. I’ve got it in spades-which has come to mean a lot, colloquially speaking.

I think that if you're considered an idiot savant the idiot part probably tends to get more attention than the savant part. It's kind of pointless to try and spruce up a classification that begins with idiot... people tend to get stuck on that half of the term-can't quite give the savant aspect it's due respect. It's like calling somebody a pedophile prodigy. The fact that you were able to flawlessly play a Mozart symphony at age nine tends to get overshadowed by the fact that at 16 you're getting frisky with seven year olds. And yes, I just made up the concept of pedophile prodigies which I realize is equal parts disturbing and inventive.

Well, I think I've started what is safe to say is a bad habit so far as substantial blog-writing is concerned. My days have been pleasantly busy and I've left my blog writing for the end of the workday when I'm technically free to leave. As important as this blog writing is as a writing exercise for me and as much as I don't want to disappoint the handful of devoted fans that I've gathered over the past couple months, I think I might be inclined to...see ya!

So cous, are you going to tell us what your new job IS? There must be some funny way to let us in on this little secret.

A. You never did let us in on what your new job is.

B. Please do not stop blogging. Remember my world revolves around this blog, without it I may be lost.

You are peanut butter to my jelly.
